Yuko Shimizu

Yuko Shimizu began studying the violin with Toshiya Eto at the Toho Gakuen Music School in Tokyo where she earned her Violin Diploma. She entered Pierre Amoyal’s class at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) in 2000, earning with honors her Soloist Diploma. Since 2006 Yuko Shimizu has concentrated on the viola, studying with Bruno Pasquier at the HEMU. She earned a Teaching Diploma and a Soloist Diploma with honors as well as the Max Jost Prize.

Yuko Shimizu performs regularly in recital and as a soloist with orchestras such as the Moscow Virtuosos, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to her many activities as a performer, Yuko Shimizu is also committed to teaching. Together with Pierre Amoyal, she was intimately involved in the founding of the Camerata de Lausanne.
